Independent Living Skills

Pathways to Independence’s unique service point is its programme of Independent Living Skills training sessions. Our vision is of a world in which all young people are able to fulfill their potential and make the transition to independence and adult life. The programme prepares young people for that transition.

Our practices are based on personal responsibility and the young person’s empowerment. We believe in enabling young people to make choices about their future on the basis of full information and realistic expectations of the options available to them. It is only through this, and through informing and supporting young people to realise their rights and entitlements, that a successful transition can be made.

We have approximately 40 Independent Living Skills units, which cover a broad range of areas. It covers specialist and general issues, and was developed in collaboration with young people, staff and outside agencies.
