The BBC are reporting here that the IAS is to close, which will leave huge numbers of asylum seekers without representation, in a replay of what happened to Refugee and Migrant Justice last year. |

Thanks to Helen Malpass in our Brighton office for bringing to our attention a recently published UNHCR Global Trends Report. It is clear to us that refugee issues should still be at the top of our agenda, especially with the highest number of refugees internationally for 15 years, and a staggering 837500 international refugees. |

Pathways to Independence are currently working in partnership with Refugee Youth Project who are planning a series of creative workshops to enable young refugees to reflect on the opportunities and challenges they experience living in the UK. Activities are planned over the Easter holidays and will include photography, theatre trip, storytelling and graffiti. One of our keyworkers, Helen Malpass, recently found an article in the Guardian about the resumption of deportation flights to Iraq. This is despite court rulings which say that it is too dangerous to deport people to Baghdad and criticism from the UN High Commission for Refugees directed towards the UK for deporting Iraqis. Went to screening of ‘Asylum’ last night. The film showed some psychodrama workshops with young afghan / Iranian/ Iraqi unaccompanied minors which re-told their stories in order to communicate their plight to viewers and also as a form of creative therapy for the young people. http://www.asylumfilm.com/trailer.htm Ken Livingstone came to show his support for defending the rights and protection of these young people who are the product of our global political struggles..
